"Markets, Festivals, and Growing a Crowd
Connecting Agriculture with your Downtown"

Ginger Myers

Many thanks to the University of Maryland Extension’s Ginger Myers for a thought provoking presentation at the MDDA bi-monthly event on September 15 in Westminster. Examining the ties between agriculture and downtown communities, Ginger wove the principles of “Place-based” Economic Development into an enlightening discussion that had us all thinking about what makes our cities and towns unique.

Are you missing opportunities to create a stronger destination by combining agricultural events and attractions with downtown B&Bs? Is there a locally grown food that’s ripe for becoming the theme of a new festival? Is your farmers’ market located in a spot that benefits the vendors (easy access, parking, visibility) and downtown businesses? Can you name five farmers in your community?

Check in with your local agriculture marketing specialist, and start talking with area farmers. As Ginger pointed out, we’re hard-wired to operate best in communities. Click here to see her presentation.

A December event is being planned now.  Please watch here and your email for details.
